Night & Day | Ella Kilgour

29th August - 27th September 2026 | 91 Lower Clapton Road, London E5 0NP

We are delighted to announce Ella Kilgour’s first solo exhibition at Glasshouse.

Bringing together more than 40 new artworks, the exhibition offers glimpses into Ella’s world. Her painting practice is rooted in close attention to shifting light on surface, each work a small act of devotion. From sun-drenched still lives and candlelit interiors to sensitive figure studies, the collection is bound together by observations of the changing rhythms of light and time.

There is a quiet poetry to Ella’s work, as she harnesses oil paint to elevate the ordinary and magnify that which she holds close. Objects, bodies, faces and landscapes become mosaics of colour, abstract shapes and patterns. Beautifully observed and rendered, her paintings resist the pursuit of ‘perfect’ execution, instead leaving visible traces of process and decision-making: broken colour, expressive brushstrokes and unfinished edges. In this way, Ella’s surfaces remain lively and open, evoking something closer to memory and dreams.
