Through the Whispering Pines | Solo Exhibition by Alanna Eakin

Emerging London-based artist Alanna Eakin leads us through painterly portals into vivid, dreamlike landscapes. Born in 1988, she graduated in 2010 with a BA in Fine Art at Central Saint Martin’s and now works from her studio in Wimbledon.

Alanna has cultivated a signature style which playfully fuses saturated, electric colour palettes with whimsical depictions of the natural world. She contrasts abstracted, expressive brushstrokes with delicate, finely-painted details. Amidst textured passages of undulating colour, botanical and architectural elements emerge. The fantastic and the familiar sit side by side. The real and the surreal intertwine. Carefully placed, these details suggest human relationship to the land and ask us to place ourselves within the enchanting worlds Alanna creates.

Through the Whispering Pines engages our curiosity and imagination. Drawing upon key places from her childhood and inspiration from her travels, she blends memory and observation to conjure fairytale-like vistas that we glimpse through window panes, arch ways and towering trees. These visual thresholds offer us passage to other realms, echoed by the unique hand-painted framing which surrounds each artwork.

At the heart of Alanna’s practice is a deep connection to storytelling. She invites us to step into her painted worlds, weave our own narrative and find a sense of belonging, wonder and nostalgia.
