Lucy Spanyol

Welcome to the strange and fantastical world of Lucy Spanyol, where imagery is pushed outside the boundaries of realism, the subjects elusive and slippery. 

Lucy is an accomplished and prize-winning watercolour artist based in Whitstable. She employs fluid markmaking techniques to conjure dreamlike paintings that sit in between figuration and abstraction. 

Embracing the unpredictable nature of the medium, Lucy directs the flow of water, experimenting with passages of paint which resist formal representation and instead drift into feathery, soft marks and bleeding colour. This mark-making echoes her approach to visual storytelling. These worlds are not solid and fully knowable, they are full of ambiguity and intrigue - sparking our curiosity and imagination.
