Ella Kilgour
Sea Dog
Sea Dog
Oil on linen. Framed in a floating oak tray frame measuring 33 x 24 cm.
Ella is interested in how light transforms the everyday. As a Mum, much of her time is spent within the routines of home life - cleaning, caring, and repeating small acts. Painting allows her to see these moments differently. Using oil paint, with chromatic underpaintings and broken colour, she captures the space between what’s real and what’s felt. Through this process, familiar scenes become more sensory, even slightly unreal — a way of noticing and elevating the quiet rituals of domestic life.
The Artist
The Artist
Artfully combining old master techniques with playful contemporary touches, self-taught oil painter Ella Kilgour examines how light transforms the everyday through a series of figurative, landscape, interior and still life artworks.
She is interested in the place where old and new worlds collide. The ‘fuzzy edge’ between that which is real and that which is imagined. Anchored in careful observation from life, she introduces chromatic underpainting, broken colour and unexpected imagery to subvert our expectations. In this way her paintings move between the domestic and the sublime, the joyful and the jarring, the dark and the light.
