Peter Davis
Glom
Glom
Original watercolour on board. This artwork is unframed and measures 29.5 x 21 cm (a4).
'Glom' is a Shetland Norn word which describes a faint light, for example on a late Summer evening.
Peter Davis RSW is based in the remote, wild landscape of Shetland at the Northernmost tip of the UK. His daily ritual is a walk 'around the block' which takes him on a circular walk from his home, up the hill, around the coastline and cliffs and back to his studio via the beach. These routine walks continually provide inspiration for his ethereal watercolour paintings as he notices the changing colours of the sky and sea.
The Artist
The Artist
Peter Davis is an award-winning Scottish artist and member of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour (RSW). After spending much of his time teaching in Orkney and Shetland, he is now a full time artist working from his coastal Shetland studio.
Painting Northern landscapes for over 40 years, it is Peter’s experimental handling of watercolour which is pivotal to these ethereal conjurings of the Shetland landscape. Instead of traditional brushwork you will see expansive washes of colour, areas of pooling and feather-like, bleeding marks. Peter leans into the natural fluidity of watercolour and its obedience to gravity - expertly directing the water but also allowing it to flow unpredictably.
