Ceal's playful and engaging artworks often function as affirmations and forms of quiet protest. Like a ritual, they are daily reminders of liberation, contrasted with an illustrative style which reminds us of the imposing standards of the past. These young women harness their own sense of power, identity and freedom in contemporary culture.

                    The Artist
Based in London, Ceal has created a unique and recognisable visual language using vintage illustrations as her springboard. Through traditional and contemporary printmaking techniques she contrasts society’s expectations of young people today with the imposing standards of the past. Always playfully juxtaposing ideas and imagery, the innocent figures in her work often explore ideas such as protest, freedom of speech, rebellion, feminism and human rights.
