Fiona Fouhy
Presence
Presence
Variable edition of 20 monotype and etching on Somerset paper measuring 28.5 x 38 cm.
Fiona's recent collection is connected to the art and ritual of Forest Bathing - also known as Shinrin-yoku - an ancient Japanese process of relaxation which involves immersing ourselves in nature to enhance well-being. These meditative and atmospheric artworks take us deep into the forest in order to quiet our mind and engage the senses.
The Artist
The Artist
Through Fiona’s deeply atmospheric and evocative original monotypes, we step into the forest. Into the unknown, the wild and a space laden with metaphysical meaning and narrative. An important symbol for Fiona, the forest is both a mysterious, haunting place full of uncertainty and fragility, and a healing, restorative space for the planet and the individual.
In Fiona’s monotype process she utilises rollers, rags and other materials to layer ink upon the plate, using the early ghost layers to create depth and perspective. She draws us deep into the trees with her monotone palette and ethereal, misty mark-making. Based in Walthamstow, Fiona is a tutor at East London Printmakers and studied at Central St Martins.
