Red Gloves

Ilona Szalay is a London-based artist from Beirut. After studying English literature at Oxford University, she went on to study Fine Art at Central Saint Martins.

Ilona explores power, vulnerability, narrative and performance through experimental, unique mark-making. Often using deliciously glossy surfaces, the materiality and spontaneity of paint interacting with these surfaces has enabled her to build a distinctive and compelling visual language. Her figures and creatures seem quickly conjured and about to slip away. Caught mid-narrative, intriguing and mysterious.
