An Amsterdam house has become the stage for a hypnotic interpretation of a famous work - ‘Girl with a Pearl Earring’ by Johannes Vermeer. Painted in 1665 during the height of the Dutch Golden Age, this is still an intriguing and widely-discussed painting. Chris harnesses chiaroscuro to excellent effect on the face of this building and captures the girl’s enigmatic gaze emerging from the darkness.
Meticulously painted, one master of light informs another. Chris plays with the idea of imaginations and mystery - ideas at the heart of this beloved painting still not fully understood.

By placing these single houses into unexpected rural spaces he changes the context and thus creates a new narrative - steeped in otherness, nostalgic beauty and a hint of the surreal. A black and white cat traces his every step.
